1. Columbia, Missouri
This is a university town with a teaching hospital as part of the University of Missouri. It is located between St. Louis and Kansas City. The distance to St. Louis is about two hours while it is approximately 2 hours to Kansas City. You really do not need to leave Columbia because it has a lot of the concert series, free lectures and wineries nearby. There is a low rate of poverty here and as a senior you will get in on the cutting edge of medical technology.
2. College Station, TX
The climate is warm here and not far San Antonio, Dallas or Houston. The housing is very reasonable with the median cost of $149,000. It is also a college with Texas AM. Houston is also noted for its medical research and technology. When the students are present, it is like living in a small town.
3. Knoxville, TN
This is another university town located in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains and is surrounded by many recreational places for nature lovers. The seniors here are very active in cultural affairs. University of Tennessee Medical Center is rated the best in the State.
4. Tulsa, Oklahoma
If you like small cities, Tulsa is for you. It is a warm and welcoming city. The median house price is $126,000. There are 26 miles of walking and biking trails with lots of parks with sculptures.
5. Hendersonville, NC
The people living here are friendly, but sophisticated at the same time. It is twenty five miles from Mission Health System in Asheville, NC. It has a mild four seasons without the extremes of weather. You can hike to over 200 waterfalls here and there is plenty of golfing here.

6. St. Augustine, FL
This is the oldest city in US with world class beaches and palm trees. It is noted for its low crime rate and there is no state income tax. Jacksonville, Fl is only 45 minutes from here. People love the historic charm of the city.
7. Branson, MO
Retirees love coming here for entertainment, fishing and good country living. It is centrally located in the country for family to visit and be entertained with Silver Dollar City and Shepherd of the Hills Theater. You can get good home cooking here.
Where you retire has to be senior friendly, safe, secure and affordable. Also, as you grow older you have to keep in mind that your healthcare costs could become higher. Good public transportation is a plus. All of this will leave you enjoying life in your golden years and still be close to family.
These places are worth being considered if you are planning to spend your life after retirement in a place where you can peacefully spend your rest of the life, without being distracted by the outer world.
