Nov 25, 2014

For some people, staying in hostels is their number one choice. This is probably because they love the companies of others and would like to socialize while traveling alone. As for me, I can be in between. There are times when I like the environment of a hostel where everything seems to be livelier than staying in an apartment. But what if you need a personal time and want to try renting an apartment on travel trip? Well, here’s a few ways to determine how you can do it : What Is Apartment Rental For Travelers? Basically, individuals and companies will often advertise their apartments on sites. Instead of paying for a hotel or hostel, you will be staying in someone’s apartment. The process of booking is pretty much the same as any other type of accommodation. First, you will need to go online and find the sites you like. Then, you search through for apartment and create and account. After that you will book a place and when they’ve finally verified you, you will be able to talk tothe apartment’s owner. Major apartment rental operators are Airbnb, Home Away, 9flats, Wimdu and Roomorama. (image by : University of Nottingham)   Who Is This For? Personally, apartment rental are for business travelers, couples, families or anyone who will be spending a long time in a single place. They apparentsly do not want to spend the whole week in a hostel but are not able to afford the Hilton as well. Therefore, renting an apartment is the best option for these people. It represents in-between space of hostel and hotel. If you’re a businessman and traveling for business purpose, you won’t probably choose hostel if you long for the comfort of home. However, we all know how expensive hotel can be. Therefore, renting an apartment is the perfect compromise of your dilemma. How Much Is Renting An Apartment Will Cost? Are they safe enough? Just like hostel and hotel, renting an apartment during travel trip will vary accordingly. In general, the price is about half of what you will pay in a hotel. Even though they are as good as hostel in term of bargain...

Fantastic Island Views In Vanuatu

Fantastic Island Views In Vanuatu

Nov 20, 2014

There are 83 islands making up the archipelago of Vanuatu which, I must say, offer fantastic island views. Other than that, Vanuatu boasts the unforgettable Pacific hospitality, beautiful rainforests, landscapes and great diving activities with lots of fish. When being compared to other Pacific Islands which tend to be expensive, Vanuatu is actually a lot more cheaper since it is not yet a “hotspot” for tourists. Some of the places to visit include the Mele Cascades, Port Villa, Chief Roi Mata’s Domain, Hideaway Island Marine Reserve, Mystery Island and the Vanuatu Jungle Zipline. Accommodation and Food There are a lot of budget hotels around Vanuatu and I was not quite surprised to know that Vanuatu does not have a lot of hostels around. I paid USD40 for a doubke room but the range can raise until USD60. Shop around for the best price and best service before you settle in. That always work out for me. As for the food, casual local meals and lunch had cost me about USD15 per serving but this could get to USD40 if I would spend on a nice hotel dinner. The food vary accordingly though just like any other places. (image by: carawah)   Transportation and Activities There are public transportation in Vanuatu, so you don’t have to worry about it. For each way on bus, the ticket would cost me about USD1.50. When I went to Hideaway Island, I was told that there were free ferry rides to a few islands. I took advantage of the free ferry rides to Hideaway Island and saved on my budget. In Port Villa, the taxis can cost slightly higher than the bus ride. So unless you need to take a taxi ride, do avoid this if you don’t feel like paying more. Activities in Vanuatu are relatively priced. For USD28, I went for snorkeling for a day and the admission to the Cascade waterfalls was about USD22. Tips On Money Saving First, when you arrive in Port Villa, do exchange your money because it often have bette rate than anywhere else around Vanuatu. Then, if you’re planning to see the Cascades, I would definitely recommend taking the bus for...

Dracula Country Called Romania

Dracula Country Called Romania

Nov 15, 2014

The most ridiculous I had ever heard of while planning my trip to Romania was when someone told me that Dracula could be found in that country. I went there, half-expecting it was true but I came back with disappointment. No, Dracula doesn’t exist in Romania’s tourism. But if you’re looking for beautiful countryside, wonderful people, stunning architecture and the delicious food, Romania can give all of these. Accommodation and Food For a night in a hostel dorm, I paid USD8 but the range can go up until USD10 per night. If you’re looking for a private double room, the range is between USD35-USD40 for each night. As for the hotel, the cost is about USD40 for a double room in a cheap, 2-star hotel. Yes, food is relatively cheap in the country with most of my small meals cost me about USD5 per serving. However, in major tourist cities like Sighisoara or Brasov, restaurants would charge about USD25 for meals with drinks. I didn’t cook during my stay but some of the travelers I met had claimed that groceries cost them about USD40 per week. (image by : Sofica )   Transportation and Activities A single journey ticket on city buses or trains cost me about USD1 and USD10 per ride was the cost I paid for intercity trains and buses. A second-class ticket is rarely higher than USD20. Most places of attractions and museums would cost me between USD5-USD10. I didn’t spend a lot of money in Romania, not because I was being cheap. But it was because the country itself was cheap enough for budget traveler like me. Apart from tips on couchsurfing, cooking your own food and eating local meal, I don’t really have any other tricks to share on how to save your budget. Because traveling to Romania don’t really need you to spend a lot of money. What Did I Do In Romania? Well, one of the first things I did when I arrived in Romania was wandering through Alexandru Borza Botanic Gardens which is situated in Cluj Napoca. It features Japanese garden, a rose garden, an observation tower and even rolling green hills. Secondly, I went to...
