Artist seeks medical curiosities to photograph

 Anatomical Anatomicalgallery Images Anatomicaltheatre57-1
Joanna Ebenstein of the fantastically curious Morbid Anatomy blog recently created an exhibition of her photographs of medical museums around the world. Now, Joanna is seeking to photograph private collections of medical oddities. From her post:
For my next project, I would like to photograph similar types of curiosities, ephemera, and artifacts, but in this case only those residing in private rather than public collections. If any of you out there have collections that you think might be of interest, or know of anyone else who might, I would love to hear from you. All leads appreciated! All locations considered!

it is too bad that the famous Mutter museum in Philadelphia prohibits photography in order to maintain a copyright on their exhibits.

My dad has a small collection of skulls. Ranging in size from human to anole lizard. I think there might about a dozen. All different animals and things. The collection is a nice addition to the mantle in the living room.

Is this a photograph of a beach on Gulf Island between B.C.'s mainland and Vancouver Island?

I'm not sure what qualifies as a 'public' versus 'private' collection, but the Musée Dupuytren at the Université Pierre & Marie Curie in Paris has one of the most spectacular collections of medical curiosities I've ever seen. It's paid admission / you can arrange a private tour w/ the faculty. They have the original brains from Paul Broca's aphasia patients, among hundreds of other items of "medical interest." (anencephalies, casts of long-term effects of syphilis, conjoined animal twins, a variety of preserved dissections, etc etc).

I have a private collection of feet, but they're not dead yet.

Dear Joanna,

The world-renown collector of antique medical curiosities is Steve Erenberg- also known on the net as the "Radio Guy".

His collection of Victorian scientific devices and bizaar medical curiosities is not to be believed.

He is also an artist of immense talent.
I have personal experience with this because he is one of the featured artists in our Steampunk Exhibition in Bridgehampton, NY.

Best of luck in all of your work.
