Emeralds are from the mineral beryl. They are green in color due to the presence of Chromium and sometimes, Vanadium. Most emeralds are included. Inclusion is a trapped material within the stone as it is undergoing its formation. It is also the characteristic used to gauge the interior characteristics of gemstones.
